Dulaa - Something Like A Outlaw
Set against the gritty backdrop of post–Civil War Copper Canyon, KY, “Something Like a Outlaw” tells the story of a young man who leaves home, haunted by duty, blood, and the promise he made to his family to bring back the gold needed to save their farm. Dulaa walks the line between outlaw and salvation as violence erupts over a woman, loyalty is tested, and not everyone leaves Copper Canyon alive. Told through gritty visuals, haunting voiceover, and a modern hip-hop western fusion, this film blurs the line between myth and memory — where every dollar comes soaked in consequence, and even good men don’t die clean. (This music video is taken from a 16 minute Short Film of the same name. I’ve included a link to the full Short Film below) (Dulaa’s name is pronounced, “Du – La”) Anthony “Dulaa” Holmes is a Memphis, TN based “Krunktry Music” artist / storyteller / songwriter / producer with an exciting new film project & music video, “Something Like A Outlaw”. Dulaa, also known as "The King of Krunktry", is known for his modern country style with a Southern rock or "krunk" influence, as suggested by his title. Music has been a huge part of Dulaa’s whole life and his music today has been shaped by some of the places he lived as he was growing up. Raised in South Memphis and Durant, Mississippi, his love of music started early. His dad was a truck driver and according to Dulaa, “All my Daddy would play was country music and blues while riding the road, so it embedded itself in me. I would buy rap tapes from the truckstops. I loved Sade, Johnny Cash, Run DMC and Conway Twitty”. As Dulaa grew older, his next stop was New Orleans. “I moved to New Orleans to pursue music career and lived with my friend Derek Dabbs who was a jazz musician and his wife at the time, Debbie. During this time I was running back and forth to Houston producing music for movies and a few animated series. As Dulaa was crafting and honing his music, he found that the music he was writing, producing & performing was more for what other people wanted to hear rather than what was true to Dulaa’s soul and passion. He came to the realization that he had to be true to himself and write, produce and perform the music that came from the amalgamation of the music he loved growing up. That is when he came up with the term, “Krunktry Music” to describe the sound of the music he was creating. “Krunktry Music” is a gumbo of sounds that incorporate a little Hip-Hop with Country based music and theming, mixed with the twang from deep down South in the Mississippi Delta. When asked how he got the term “Krunktry Music”, Dulaa said, “I did a project with Country singer Nancy Apple. I begged her for a whole year to work with me and finally she gave me a shot and it worked! We did shows together and one day we were in studio she was like, ‘What is your style of music? What the hell you call it? ....it’s like rap/country/blues’. I said, ‘That’s been an issue. No one knows where to place me ...so the labels didn’t give me any opportunities. I wasn’t in a pocket, couldn’t box me up, so no labels want to take a chance on it. Now it’s becoming a “thing” when I was doing it first, 15 years ago’. She said it’s “Crunk” and “Country”. Just throwing out, I said “Krunktry!”and then she said, “That’s it! It fits you Dulaa!’” Continuing, Dulaa said, “Two independent labels gave me opportunity to Shine. It was my bros at PURE PAIN RECORDS and My BROS at SOUNDTOWN RECORDS. I didn’t blow up but the experience was priceless”. -------------------------------------------- Website: www.Dulaathekok.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AnthonyDulaaHolmes Instagram: www.instagram.com/dulaa901 Twitter: www.x.com/dulaa901 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/6rmnanDAFayx1tBy9dRbgh IHeart: https://www.iheart.com/artist/dulaa-the-king-of-krunktry-46642911/ Label: Campsouth Records TRT: 6:01 ISRC: QMEU32506468 Song IPI# Songwriters: Anthony Dulaa Holmes Songwriters’ IPI#: BMI# 189593997 Publisher: Laadu Music Publisher IPI#: BMI# 464761042
