Mallory Johnson - Drunk Mind, Sober Heart
Mallory Johnson hails from Conception Bay South, Newfoundland & Labrador, but is currently based in Nashville, TN. The 2017 CCMA Spotlight Performance winner released her debut EP in 2018 which earned her the 2019 ECMA for Country Recording of the Year, and 3 MusicNL nominations for Country Artist, Rising Star, and Female Artist of the Year. Her debut single "Tupelo" hit #6 on the Canadian Country iTunes Top Songs list and found a home on GAC and CMT.com. Her following single "Good Mistake to Make" broke top 50 on the Music Row Chart and top 30 on the CDX Breakout Chart.
Raised on icons like Dolly, Merle and Loretta, it’s no surprise that Mallory wanted to pursue Country Music. However, hailing from Newfoundland and Labrador, another genre of music is near and dear to her heart — Celtic music. Mallory started her professional career performing with the 6-time musical award winning and ECMA nominated Celtic family band “The Cormiers”.
In May of 2018, Mallory released her debut self-titled ep (produced by Sammy Kershaw) which earned her the 2019 ECMA for Country Recording of the Year and 3 musical nominations for Country Artist, Rising Star and Female Artist of the Year. The ep includes songs written by hit-makers Gordie Sampson, Hillary Lindsey, Troy Verges, and Steve McEwan and is “…packed with rollicking guitar solos, heartfelt storytelling, and catchy melodies—all supporting Johnson’s voice, a controlled, fierce, and empathetic instrument at the heart of each track” - Melody Lau (SOCAN Magazine).
Following an audition for the war thriller “Into the Wilderness,” Mallory was asked to both act and write music for the feature film. Directed by Richard de Witt and starring Shuler Hensley, Christopher-Lawson Palmer, and Kelly Shipe, the film is aiming to be released in 2020.
On September 20th 2019, Mallory released two brand new songs as a digital 45 called a “double shot” (produced by Dustin Olyan). The project includes the singles “Hungover” (written by Mallory Johnson, Krystan Bellows, and Christie Huff) and “Drunk Mind, Sober Heart” (written by Mallory Johnson, Tenille Arts, and Krystan Bellows). “Hungover” has already received an honorable mention in the 19th annual NSAI song contest presented by CMT and Martin guitars and strings.
